ONNECTION

E1 consists of 30 customer DS0s, one signaling DS0, and 1 control DS0. E1
data rate is 1.92Mbps excluding the signaling and control DS0.

Overall

Planned data rate:

4.096 Mbps

Potential DS0 channels:

64

Active DS0 channels:

As required.

Alternative data rates:

2.048 Mbps or 8.192 Mbps

Alternative number of channels: 32 or 128
Data Streams:

Three. One (possible) network management
DS0 plus two N x 64 K serial data streams

.
Frame Integrity:

The serial data streams must maintain frame
integrity.

The parallel signaling channel is not connected to this port.

This connection is channelized, but in blocks of associated channels, creating
separate data streams. The Router connection may be split into two or three sub-
channels, each with its own source. The associated channels that make a sub-
channel must be switched in a “Frame-Integrity Mode,” defined later, to create a
data stream that is carried without being scrambled. The location of the data
pipes in the 64 possible channels are set by the system (or “network
management”) controller to any time slots that it finds convenient.

Data Stream 1

This is a channel consisting of 1 through 24 (Future
expansion to 32) DS0 channels associated into one “data
pipe.” It could come from either T1.

Data Channel 2

This is a channel consisting of 1 through 24 (Future
expansion to 32) DS0 channels associated into one “data
pipe.” It could come from either T1.

Control Channel.

This is a single 64 kbt DS0 channel that is used to connect
to the “network management” function.

The above data stream can enter from the WAN in either of the two T1s.
One data stream cannot be assembled from both WAN interfaces.
Inverse multiplexing is not supported
