SHREDDER MODEL 650.

4-4.1

Maximum size branches for the hopper is 1/2
inch in diameter. Maximum size branches for
the chipper is 2 inches in diameter.

NOTE

If a customer has a vibration problem in the
housing assembly of 1989 and prior units, a
brace is available to help minimize the vibra-
tion. Order part number 753-0500.

4-4.2Sharpening or Replacing Shredder Blade.

The shredder blade may be removed for grind-
ing or replacement as follows.

WARNING

Disconnect spark plug wire and ground it
against engine

1.

Lower upper guide extension.

2.

Block up housing. See Figure 4-24.

3.

Remove four elastic lock nuts from the back of
housing using a 1/2 inch wrench. Separate
shredder into two halves.

4.

Remove backup plate.

NOTE

When reassembling, make certain the open-
ing on backup plate is toward the bottom of the
unit. The back up plate may be reversed to
provide a new cutting edge.

5.

Hold blade retainer on impeller assembly with
an adjustable wrench to keep the blade from
turning.

6.

Remove blade by removing center bolt, lock
washer and flat washer.

CAUTION

Use caution when removing the blade to avoid
contacting the weld bolts protruding from the
housing.

NOTE

The blade is reversible and can be assembled
to the crankshaft with either side showing.

7.

When sharpening the blade, follow the original
angle of grind as a guide. It is extremely impor-
tant that each cutting edge receives an equal
amount of grinding to prevent an unbalanced
blade. An unbalanced blade will cause exces-
sive vibration when rotating at high speeds and
may cause balancing it on a round shaft screw-
driver or nail. Remove metal from the heavy
side until it balances evenly. See Figure 4-25.

8. When reassembling the blade, tighten to

between 375 and 450 in-lbs., or lacking torque
wrench, tighten securely.
