CAUTION

The beam needs to be in the down position
while using the splitter to avoid oil discharge
from the vent. The front stand is to be used only
for checking the fluid level and storage.

6-3.2

Changing the Hydraulic Fluid. Hydraulic fluid in
the reservoir should be changed every 100
hours of operation. Change fluid as follows:

1.

Remove six hex bolts, lock washers and hex
nuts which hold end plate to beam. See Figure
6-9.

2.

Remove plate and drain the fluid. Be prepared
to catch the fluid in a suitable container.

CAUTION

Drain hydraulic fluid and flush reservoir tank
assembly and hoses each time repair work is
performed in the tank, hydraulic pump or valve.
Contaminants in the fluid will damage hydraulic
components.

3.

Remove inlet hose from fitting above.

4.

Remove fitting from beam and pull out strainer
tube assembly.

5.

Clean strainer tube assembly and reassemble.

6.

Reassemble end plate.

7.

Refill reservoir with Dextron II transmission fluid
(approximately 2 gallons).

8.

Bleed air from hydraulic system as follows:

a.

Remove breather cap.

b. Start engine.

c. Slowly work engagement handle forward

and backward until ram moves smoothly in
both directions.

d.

Stop engine and check fluid level.

e.

Add fluid as necessary and bleed air from
the hydraulic system until oil level is correct
and ram operates smoothly.

f.

Replace breather cap securely.

NOTE

Be certain to bleed air from hydraulic system as
instructed above after any repair work is done
on the pump, valve or cylinder, if a hose is
removed for any reason or when adding fluid to
the reservoir.

WARNING

Do not operate unit with the breather cap
removed.
