6-3.3 Belt Removal or Replacement.

WARNING

Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug
and ground it against engine block.

1.

Drain gasoline from fuel tank or place a piece
of plastic under cap to prevent leakage.

2.

Tip splitter on one side.

3.

Remove four self-tapping screws from bottom
belt cover and frame. See Figure 6-11.

4.

Using a 9/16 inch wrench, remove engine pul-
ley by removing hex bolt and lock washer. Slip
pulley and belt off. Be careful not to lose
square key on crankshaft. See Figure 6-12.

5.

Loosen three engine mounting bolts using a
1/2 inch wrench. See Figure 6-13.

6.

Install new belt.

7.

Slide engine outward to tighten new belt until
there is approximately 1/2 inch deflection.
Tighten engine mounting bolts securely.

6-3.4 Belt Adjustment.

belt cover and frame.

4.

1/2 inch wrench.

5.

Slide engine outward to tighten belt until there
is approximately 1/2 inch deflection. Tighten
engine mounting bolts securely.
