Looking for physical signs

Check for a PCI network adapter card (if using a desktop
computer) or a network adapter PC Card in the PC Card slot
of a notebook computer.

Check the documentation that came with your computer. It
may indicate that the network feature is built in. If it is, there
will be an RJ45 port on the side of the computer for
connecting the network cable.

Your computer may also come with wireless networking
capability. Check the documentation.

Looking for the Network Neighborhood icon

Look for an icon for Network Neighborhood (or My Network
Places). If one appears, your system has a NIC installed.
