Leica CV5030 – Robotic Coverslipper

8. Malfunctions and Troubleshooting

Problem

Possible cause

Remedy

The specimen gets dam-

aged when coverslip

mountant is applied.

The height of the dispenser needle

is set incorrectly or the dispenser

needle was inserted incorrectly.

The height of the dispenser needle is set too low, so that

it scratches the specimen when coverslip mountant is

being applied. The height of the dispenser needle has to

be readjusted to the correct height (

refer to Chapter 4.7

).

Notice! Make sure the dispenser needle is securely in

place (clamp is in the retaining plate).

The cover slips have been

deposited on the speci-

men slide incorrectly.

1. The cover slip magazine is in-

serted incorrectly.

2. The cover slips stick to each

other.

3. The cover slip sensor is dirty.

1. Check how the coverslip magazine is seated; remove

any dirt or remnants of glass from in/under the coverslip

magazine.

2. Use cover slips of sufficient quality and store them in

a dry place.

3. Check the cover slip sensor for dirt; if necessary, clean

the sensor with a cloth soaked in compatible solvent.

Attention! If the actions described above do not remedy

the problem that has occurred, contact the responsible

Leica Service.

The cover slips have been

deposited on the speci-

men slide at the incorrect

position.

1. The cover slips have been insert-

ed into the coverslip magazine

incorrectly.

2. The parameter CSP has been

selected incorrectly.

1. The cover slips have to be flush against the edge of the

front side in the coverslip magazine.

2. The parameter CSP (coverslip position = cover slip

placement position) has to be corrected. In addition, it

may be necessary to modify the parameter STP (stroke

position = starting point of the coverslip mountant

stroke) (

refer to Chapter 5.10

).

Intact cover slips are con-

veyed into the cover slip

catch tray.

1. The cover slip sensor is dirty.

2. The suction cups are deformed.

1. Check the cover slip sensor for dirt; if necessary, clean

the sensor with a lint-free cloth soaked in compatible

solvent.

2. Replace the suction cups.

The coverslip mountant

is not evenly distributed.

The dispenser needle is clogged by

dried coverslip mountant or dried

coverslip mountant has accumu-

lated around the dispenser needle.

Replace the dispenser needle with a new one.

Place the clogged dispenser needle in xylene or another,

corresponding solvent overnight and then carefully clean

it of residual mountant.

The Pick & Place module

collides with the coverslip

magazine or there is a

scraping noise when lift-

ing the cover slip.

The cover slip magazine is inserted

incorrectly.

Check whether dirt, such as broken glass, is on the floor

and/or in the holder of the cover slip magazine; if neces-

sary, carefully remove them.
