4. In the Log File Source list, select the name of the server or

configuration for which you want to configure the log file.

5. In the Location box, either leave the default location of the

file or choose another location.

6. In the Number of Messages, Max File Size, and Buffer Size

boxes, either leave the default values, or change them.
When choosing other values, keep the following in mind:

• Depending on the type of logging options that you choose

and the activity level of the server, the log files can become
very large. The Number of Messages and Max File Size
values will limit the size of the log file. After the maximum
number of messages or the maximum file size is reached,

diagnostic logging will "wrap" to the top of the file. While
this limits the size of the log file, it does present a risk of
losing earlier log messages as the file wraps.

• The Buffer Size value restricts how often the server writes

to the log file. The value represents the number of bytes of
diagnostic messages that are buffered before they are
written. Using a higher value for the Buffer Size can
improve server performance, but it may prevent you from
seeing diagnostics messages in near-real time. Using the
