1 Introduction

Overview

The Galaxy Pulsar family of controllers is comprised of the Galaxy Pulsar Plus and Galaxy Pulsar
Edge controllers. This manual covers the Galaxy Pulsar Edge group of power system controllers.
These controllers were developed to be integrated into the power shelves of the Compact Power
Line (CPL), Slimline Power Systems (SPS), CPS6000 Series II power systems, and the Infinity
NE group of converter shelves. The controller is designed to work in the respective power
systems in both indoor and outdoor cabinetized and frame power applications. The modular
hardware and software design of the Pulsar Edge allows for easy customization for specific
applications.

The Pulsar Edge provides control and alarm monitoring functions over several communication
interfaces including a standard robust RS485 digital serial interface that interconnects system
rectifiers, converters, and other smart peripherals. Control and monitoring involves power module
management that provides centralized settings for rectifier output set-point voltages, alarm
management items with user defined high and low voltage alarm and shutdown thresholds, load
and battery disconnect management, distribution monitoring, and battery management features.
Users have access to these and other features through both local and remote means. The majority
of the configurable items for the controller’s features and its associated thresholds have been set
to industry standard defaults that can be changed to fit specific needs. Having standard defaults
helps minimize the equipment setup process in the field. To further facilitate field installation,
these controllers are also available with customer specific configuration factory defaults.
Customization allows a controller to be Factory tailored for applications or for specific
configuration preferences.
