TROUBLESHOOTING

10-1

1557-UM050F-EN-P – June 2013

Introduction

This chapter will assist the user in the troubleshooting of a Bulletin 1557 drive. This chapter contains
reference material with information regarding:

Printed circuit card replacement

Power semiconductor testing

Power Semiconductor replacement

WARNING: Servicing energized industrial control equipment can be
hazardous. Severe injury or death can result from electrical shock, burn,
or unintended actuation of control equipment. Hazardous voltages may
exist in the cabinet even with the circuit breaker in the off position.
Recommended practice is to disconnect or lock out control equipment
from power sources, and confirm discharge of stored energy in
capacitors. If it is necessary to work in the vicinity of energized
equipment, the safety related work practices of NFTA 70E, Electrical
Safety requirements for Employee Work places, must be followed.

CAUTION: The CMOS devices used on the control circuit boards can
be destroyed or damaged by static charges. If personnel will be working
near static sensitive devices, they must be appropriately grounded.

Recommended Tools and Equipment

The following list of tools is highly recommended for fault tracing and repair of a 1557 Medium Voltage
Drive.

Oscilloscope with memory (dual channel 100 Megahertz)

Multimeter with assorted clip leads

Assorted hand tools, with standard inch and metric sockets and wrenches.

Approved contact type hot stick with appropriate high voltage (5kV minimum) gloves.

Anti-Static wrist strap

Chip extractor
