GTO Gate Driver Board Calibration and Gate Pulse Verification Procedure
(3000 Amp Devices)

PART NUMBER COMBINATION

80165-958-53 (IGDPS)

80165-978-53 (GTOGD)

The following procedure must be followed when the GTOGD and/or IGDPS boards are replaced.
This procedure must also be followed whenever MACHINE SIDE CONVERTER devices are replaced.

Tools Required:

Digital Multimeter

100 Meg Hz Oscilloscope

Minigrabber meter probes

Potentiometer Screwdriver

1. Close the circuit breaker in the drives control logic section to apply the 50 volts DC power to the

Isolated Gate Driver Power Supply Board (IGDPS). The 2 green LEDs on the Gate Driver Board
should illuminate.

2. The Driver Board is self-adjusting no physical calibration is required.

3. Connect the negative lead of the multimeter to test point TP18 and connect the positive lead of the

multimeter test point TP17 on the GTOGD Board and verify the voltage is within the voltage range
indicated in the table below.

4. Remove the leads from the test points.

5. Connect the negative lead of the multimeter to test point TP5 and connect the positive lead of the

multimeter test point TP10 on the GTOGD Board and verify the voltage is within the voltage range
indicated in the table below.

6. Remove the lead on TP10 and connect it to test point TP13 on the GTOGD Board and verify the

voltage is within the voltage range indicated in the table below.

BOARD COMBINATION

80165-958-53 with 80165-978-53

POSITIVE RAIL

7. Put the drive in TEST MODE 1 and start the drive.

8. Connect the oscilloscope probes to the gate and cathode terminals on the SCRGD board and verify

the gate pulse waveform is as indicated in the example on the next page.
