TROUBLESHOOTING

1557-UM050F-EN-P – June 2013

Firmware Change-out Procedure

The following procedure must be followed when the drive firmware is replaced or being upgraded.

1. Record drive setup, complete parameter list and fault masks, PLC links, and external faults messages

of original drive setup. This should be done on one of the commissioning forms or with a drive printer
(if the drive has that option).

2. Refer to the compatibility chart provided to ensure that the communication processor and DCB boards

have the necessary firmware revisions.

3. Power down the drive. Use anti-static wrist strap and then remove the chips located in U12 and U13

of each Digital Control Board (DCB) and communication processor board. Removal of these chips
should be done using the appropriate removal tool (chip extractor). One vendor for the removal tool is
AUGAT.

4. Install the new chips. Ensure that the orientation of the chips is correct in the socket. Also ensure the

correct chip is inserted into the correct socket, U12 should have a -12 chip.

5. Power up the unit, all green HEALTHY lights should come on, and stay on with no flicker, on DCBs

and communication processor boards.

6. From the main screen press function key F5

(EEPROM).

7. Press function key F3 (INIT). If nothing

happens when you press F3, you do not have
unrestricted access. Return to the main menu,
go to the access screen, and enter the
password to enable this function.

8. Press function key F8 (YES). The drive control

boards will initialize to the default parameters.
