Replacing Cooling Fans
There are several models of cooling fans used in 1557 drives. Differing fan types may be used in the
various locations of fans throughout the drive.
TOP OF MACHINE SIDE CONVERTER SECTION
Check the model of cooling fans of the by removing the ventilation cover from the outside of the top plate
of the cabinet.
To replace Rotron “Caravel” or “Tarzan” fans, remove the barrier located above the machine side
converter gate driver board assemblies. Disconnect the fan leads. Remove the fan mounting plate from
the exterior of the cabinet. Mounting hardware of the fans is now accessible.
To replace EBM Votron fans, removal of interior barriers is not required. Remove the top plate of the
ventilation housing and disconnect the fan leads. Remove the cross channel to which the fan is mounted.
Mounting hardware of the fans is now accessible.
BOTTOM OF LINE SIDE CONVERTER SECTION
To replace Rotron “Caravel” or “Tarzan” fans, remove the fan support bracket hardware ( 6 screws ) and
disconnect the fan leads. Slide the bracket complete with fan up between the vertical channels and turn
the bracket up at the front so that the when the bracket is moved down it clears the vertical channels and
can be removed. Mounting hardware of the fans is now accessible.
TOP OF D.C. LINK CABINET
Open the upper door of the D.C. link cabinet so that the motor filter capacitors are visible. Disconnect the
fan leads. Remove the top ventilation cover from the exterior of the cabinet. Mounting hardware of the
fans is now accessible.
