Compensating crosshair to optical edge detector offsets

Systems that include internal optical edge detectors are mechanically calibrated so that little position offset

occurs between the crosshair and edge detector probes. Systems with external optical edge detectors

mounted to the screen are also mechanically calibrated, but typically more position offset occurs between

the crosshair and edge detector probes. In either case, the position offset between crosshair and edge

detector probes must be compensated using the Cross Cal function to insure accurate measurements when

both probes are used to acquire feature data. To compensate the offset between crosshair and edge detector

probes:

1 Click the Probe/Probe Properties menu

item to display the OE Probe Properties

dialog box, and then click the Teach but-

ton to begin the process of compensating

probes. You will be asked to measure a

circle using the crosshair probe.

2 Select the crosshair probe and click OK.

3 Measure a circle. Collect a minimum of 4 points. You will then be asked to measure the same circle

using the optical edge detector probe. Select the Edge probe and click OK.

4 Measure the same circle that was measured using the edge

detector probe. Collect a minimum of 4 points. The offset

between crosshair and edge detector probes will automatically

be inserted into the X and Y offset fields. Click OK to complete

the compensation process. Repeat this process for the remain-

ing probe magnifications.
