Run Mode

In Run Mode, the MDSA DeviceNet module operates as a slave device to a master device.
When in Run Mode, the Mod/Net Status LED blinks green if there are not DeviceNet
connections established with a master device. When one of more connections are established,
the Mod/Net Status LED will turn solid green. In Run Mode, the MDSA DeviceNet module
will:

Accept messages form a master on the DeviceNet network.

Send response messages and COS messages to a master.

Gather data from all I/O module

If a DeviceNet bus error is detected, the module enters Error Mode.

If error is detected when gathering information from the attached I/O modules, the
unit enters the I/O Error Mode.

Error Mode

In Error Mode, the Mod/Net Status LED turns red, or in the case of minor faults such as
connection time-outs, flashes red. For a full definition of the LED conditions, refer to
Mod/Net Status LED on page 5-1. In Error Mode, the outputs will go to the state specified
in the “fault action” and “fault value” attributes of the various DeviceNet Discrete Output
Point Object instances.

I/O Error Mode

In I/O Error Mode, the MDSA DeviceNet module will assert the “outputs off” pin on the
I/O module back-plane connector to drive all outputs to their off state. The I/O Status LED
will be solid red. In the event of a DeviceNet communication fault, the I/O Status LED will
be flashing red, and the outputs will go to the state specified in the “fault action” and “fault
value” attributes of the various DeviceNet Discrete Output Point Object instances. For a full
definition of the I/O Status LED conditions, refer to the I/O Status LED on page 5-3.

I/O Idle Mode

In I/O Idle Mode, the outputs will be set to the state specified in the “idle action” and “idle
value” attributes of the various DeviceNet Discrete Output Point Object instances. The I/O
Status LED will flash green. For a full definition of the I/O Status LED conditions, refer to
the I/O Status LED on page 5-3.
