10 Managing life cycle reports

Overview

The Life Cycle Report module provides lists to record the VM migrations, and the connection deployment

and undeployment processes triggered by VM startup, shutdown, deletion, or migration event.
A connection deployment or undeployment process includes one or multiple service unit-based

operations. A service unit consists of one or more operations to perform a specific function. Therefore, a

connection deployment or undeployment process contains multiple service unit-based operations. For

example, the bandwidth control service unit is used to control network bandwidth between a VM and its
clients. To implement the function, you must configure ACLs based on the VM's IP address and set the

guaranteed bandwidth for traffic between the VM and its clients.
In a VEB environment, you can manually start connection deployment and undeployment processes.

Also, certain events can trigger IMC to start the processes as follows:

When VCM finds a VM for the first time, VCM starts the connection deployment process.

When a VM is deleted, VCM starts the connection undeployment process.

When a VM migrates, VCM starts both connection deployment and undeployment processes.

In an EVB environment, connection deployment and undeployment processes can be only executed

automatically. Each time a VM starts, stops, or migrates, VCM starts the connection deployment or
undeployment process.

Migration History

VCM relies on VRM to monitor the migrations of VMs, and to record the information of each migration.

When VRM detects that the access location of a VM is changed, it considers that the VM has migrated

and tells VCM to record the migration information.
VCM displays the details of each migration in the Migration History list, which includes:

Source and destination switches.

Source and destination interfaces.

Source and destination physical servers.

Migration time.

Migration results.

In addition to the Migration History list, you can also view the migration details in a more intuitive

way—icon view, which helps you easily trace each migration of a VM.

Operation List

A VM startup, shutdown, deletion, or migration event triggers VCM to deploy or undeploy connections.

VCM provides the Operation List to record the operation details and results for each deploy or
undeploy process.
