FactoryTalk EnergyMetrix Software

286

Many FactoryTalk EnergyMetrix software users maintain established backup and
archiving procedures for business databases. FactoryTalk EnergyMetrix software does not
require any unusual or extraordinary handling of its data, so established IT database
procedures should meet the backup needs.

Rockwell Automation recommends a daily scheduled backup and shrink of the EMMA
database.

For users without an established database administration routine, please refer to Microsoft
SQL Server documentation for database backup, shrink and restore procedures.

Upgrading FactoryTalk EnergyMetrix Software Functionality

These are items that can be upgraded in FactoryTalk EnergyMetrix software.

Upgrading Meter Limits

You can increase the meter limit on your server at any time by purchasing and installing an
additional Manager package from Rockwell Automation. When installed, the number of
meters in the upgrade is added to the previously installed meter limit. For example, adding
a 50 meter Manager activation to an existing 10 meter Manager package provides a limit
of 60 meters.

Adding Options

You can also add options such as RT, FTEMOPC, ChartsPlus and ReportsPlus in the same
manner. Check with your local Rockwell Automation representative for option pricing and
availability.

Installing Options

Options are shipped with only an activation packet and an information sheet. To install an
option or upgrade, simply install the activation to the FactoryTalk EnergyMetrix server.

Upgrading to a New Release

From time to time updated versions of FactoryTalk EnergyMetrix software may become
available. You can upgrade from FactoryTalk EnergyMetrix or RSEnergyMetrix software.
For customers who have purchased software support agreements, these updates are
available at no charge. You may download an upgrade from the Rockwell Software
updates page or request a DVD from Rockwell Software support.

An upgrade can be installed from a DVD or a downloaded upgrade file. Two types of
upgrade files can be downloaded. One is a full image of the installation DVD and is
approximately 800 MB in size. The second type contains only the core FactoryTalk
EnergyMetrix program files. This ‘core’ file is about 20 MB and is intended for users
upgrading from an existing installation later than RSEnergyMetrix software version 1.3.

If you are upgrading from RSEnergyMetrix software activated with EvRSI (master
disk) activation, please contact your local Rockwell Automation Sales office or
Technical Support for information to migrate your activations to FactoryTalk
activations.
