Because the remote scan uses the Remote DKC Control function, it is necessary to set a command
device and a route list. Also, the disk configuration information acquired by the remote scan does
not have device numbers (DEVN) that are host attributes, because the information is from a storage
system that is not connected to the local host. A dummy device number must be allocated to the
disk configuration information acquired from the remote scan by using Business Continuity Manager.

“Remote scan in a 3DC Cascade (Cnt Ac-S Z x Cnt Ac-J Z) configuration” (page 107)

shows an

operational image of the remote scan function for a 3DC Cascade (Cnt Ac-S Z x Cnt Ac-J Z)
configuration. In this example, Business Continuity Manager at the primary site performs a remote
scan to acquire the disk configuration information at an intermediate site without a channel
connection.

When disk configuration information is acquired using a remote scan on any of the storage systems
below, the capacities of the discovered volumes are not acquired. Therefore, the P-VOLs' and
S-VOLs' capacities for pairs cannot be checked by BCM. Make sure that you define pairs so that
the capacities of the P-VOLs and S-VOLs are equal when using disk configuration information
acquired using a remote scan of any of the following storage systems.
