controller logical paths can be assigned for each journal group. Path group IDs are set for the
following purposes:

By specifying path group IDs for journal groups, different inter-disk controller logical paths
are assigned for each journal group. This can balance the load on inter-disk controller physical
paths.

Example: Different inter-disk controller logical paths are allocated for open system and
mainframe system replication and different physical paths are assigned to the logical paths.

One path group ID can specify up to eight physical paths between the same storage systems.
Therefore, the number of physical paths between storage systems can be increased by setting
multiple path group IDs.

Up to 64 path group IDs can be registered in each storage system.

Continuous Access Journal operations require bidirectional inter-disk controller logical paths from
the primary storage system to the secondary storage system (forward direction), as well as from
the secondary storage system to the primary storage system (reverse direction).

The bidirectional path group IDs (forward and reverse directions) must be the same in both journal
groups.

Figure 66 (page 116)

shows the overview of the inter-DKC logical path.
