The status in which I/Os are suspended within the OS.

SDSF

System display and search facility.

secondary DAD

Device address domain that contains the S-VOLs in a copy group.

secondary site

A site with a recovery host and a DKC in a 2DC configuration. This is the destination for backup
copies. To prevent both hosts from stopping simultaneously during a disaster, it should be some
hundreds to some thousands of kilometers away from the primary host.

service processor

A computer built into a storage system. Maintenance workers use this computer to analyze
maintenance information, and diagnose devices.

A Windows-based PC used by the field engineer to configure the DASD subsystem initially, and
for diagnostic purposes.

SET command

An operator command used to dynamically change values specified in the BCM Monitor parameter
files. By specifying this parameter in the MODIFY command, you can change the CYCLETIME,
WAITTIMEOUT, or MSGLEVEL values, and change the monitoring status of a copy group between
ACTIVE and INACTIVE.

SETINIT command

An operator command used to set the initialization parameter for the Business Continuity Manager
agent. By specifying this parameter in the MODIFY command, you can dynamically change the
log output level.

Shared File System.

SI

Hitachi ShadowImage. Also known as HP XP7 Business Copy.

sidefile

Memory cache in DKC used in TCA. Updates to P-VOL are first saved in the sidefile in the DKC
on the primary site, and then copied to the sidefile in the DKC on the secondary site
asynchronously, and are finally applied in the S-VOL.

SLEEP command

An operator command used to put BCM Monitor to sleep. By specifying this parameter in the
MODIFY

command, you can specify the points at which BCM Monitor enters sleep mode and

how long it remains asleep.

SMP/E

IBM installer.

SMS storage group

An aggregate of the volumes that constitute the storage pool managed by DFSMS (storage
management environment in IBM MVS).

SSID

Storage system ID.

staging dataset

A dataset where the log data acquired by Business Continuity Manager is written first. When the
usage reaches the specified value, the data is copied to a log dataset.

START command

An operator command used to start a Business Continuity Manager agent or BCM Monitor.

startup mode

An execution permission mode that is specified in an initialization parameter of Business Continuity
Manager agents. The startup mode consists of the monitor mode and the edit mode.

STOP command

An operator command used to stop a Business Continuity Manager agent or BCM Monitor.

subordinate DKC

A DKC that is a non-supervisor remote DKC subjected to arbitration processing in a 4x4
configuration.

supervisor DKC

A remote DKC that is in charge of arbitration processing in a 4x4 configuration.

suspend

A status in which copying is temporarily stopped.

suspend status

A collective name for the SUSPOP status, SUSPCU status and, SUSPER status.

SVC

Supervisor call interruption.

SVP

Service processor.

system logger
service (SYSLOG)

A function that writes, displays, and deletes the MVS standard log.

T

T-VOL

When used with FlashCopy, a T-VOL is a target volume.

target port

A FC interface port on the RCU. This port is connected to the MCU by a FC interface (FIBRE)
cable.
