Performing a remote scan to acquire remote storage system information

Acquire remote storage system information by specifying a route list ID and performing a remote
scan. When the scan completes, assign a dummy device number.

Prerequisite conditions for performing a Remote Scan

Before performing a Remote Scan, make sure the following conditions are satisfied:

A logical path (inter-control unit or inter-disk controller logical path) is established.

To confirm this, in the Path Set Status panel, which is displayed from the Manage Path Set
panel (from the Main Menu panel, choose 5 Manage Path Set), check whether a logical path
has been established.

For background information, see

“Establishing a logical path” (page 127)

The Remote DKC Control Function environment (route list definition and command device
registration) is defined.

To confirm this, check the definition in the Route Status panel, which is displayed from the
Manage Route panel.

For background information, see

“Setting up the Remote DKC Control Function environment”

(page 131)

.

When a Remote Scan is performed via a storage system, the disk configuration definition file
of that storage system is updated by the Remote Scan.

Although a disk configuration definition file is created for the storage system when a route list
is created, you need to perform a Remote Scan to update the disk configuration definition file.

The disk configuration definition file is updated by pressing the F3=Exit key in the Discover
HP Storage System panel after a Remote Scan.

For example, in a 3DC Cascade (Cnt Ac-S Z x Cnt Ac-J Z) configuration, before performing
a Remote Scan of a storage system at the remote site, perform a Remote Scan of a storage
system at an intermediate site to update the disk configuration definition file.

NOTE:

The disk configuration definition file acquired by a Remote Scan cannot be used in other

sites.

For example, if you use a Remote Scan from the Primary site to acquire a disk configuration
definition file at the Secondary site and then transfer it to the Secondary site, an error results if you
subsequently specify the file in either of the following:

The Local Device Address Domain ID field on the Set Defaults ISPF panel.

The DAD parameter for the YKLOAD command.

Specifying a Route List ID

Specify a route list ID in the Set Defaults panel before performing a Remote Scan.

Preset RouteListID: Provide the route list ID for the route from the Primary site to the Secondary
site.
