The type of the logical path you establish is determined by the copy type:

Inter-control unit logical path: Enables Continuous Access Synchronous Z or TrueCopy
Asynchronous for Mainframe remote copy communication between the P-VOL on the Main
Control Unit and the S-VOL on the Remote Control Unit.

For more information, see

“Inter-control unit logical paths” (page 113)

.

Inter-disk controller logical path: Enables Continuous Access Journal Z communication between
a journal volume on the primary storage system, and a journal volume on the secondary
storage system.

A path set can contain storage systems that belong to different device address domains (DAD).

For more information, see

“Inter-disk controller logical paths” (page 114)

.

To establish a logical path of either type:
1.

Verify the port number for the port to which the cable is connected.

NOTE:

It is a good practice to verify the port number at both ends of the connection.

You can determine the port number to which the cable is connected using one of these methods:

Use a hexadecimal number to specify the last 2 digits of the system adapter ID (SAID).

For details about the correspondence between the port number in the
CL-cluster-number-alphabetic-character

format and the SAID, see the

Continuous Access Synchronous for Mainframe Systems User Guide and the Continuous
Access Journal for Mainframe Systems User Guide
.

Acquire port number information from the storage system. For details, see

“Acquiring

path information from a storage system” (page 129)

.

2.

Define a path set by creating a path set definition file from the ISPF panels. The procedures
for these are available in

“Creating a path set” (page 591)

:

For an inter-control unit logical path: See in

“Using the ISPF panels” (page 583)

.

For an inter-disk controller logical path: See

“Defining the inter-DKC logical path set”

(page 591)

.

3.

Load and establish a path set:

From the ISPF panels: see in

“Using the ISPF panels” (page 583)

.

Using CLI commands:

1.

Load the path set definition file by executing the YKLOAD command with the PATH
parameter specified.

2.

Establish a logical path by executing the YKBLDPTH command.

For more information, see

“The Logical Path Control function” (page 112)

.

Establishing an inter-control unit logical path

Establish an inter control-unit logical path for the following control units:

The control unit containing the copy group

The control unit containing the command device

NOTE:

You can define a logical path in one direction even if there is no disk configuration

definition file at the destination site (although there must be one at the source site).

You can establish inter-disk controller logical paths when the storage systems contain Non Gen'ed
volumes or inter-control unit logical paths. However, when establishing, deleting or acquiring the
status of an inter-control unit logical path, if all volumes in the relevant control unit are Non Gen'ed
volumes, you need to set up a route list and register a command device beforehand.
