Configuring routes and command device lines

This section explains how to configure routes and command device lines.
To configure routes:
1.

Identify the remote storage systems.

In a configuration in which operations are performed on copy pairs, among the storage
systems that are not directly connected to a host via a channel (remote storage systems),
identify the ones that contain P-VOL or S-VOL copy groups managed by Business Continuity
Manager.

2.

Configure the routes.

After establishing a storage system connected directly to a host via a channel as the starting
point, configure a route so that all remote storage systems can be linked. A single storage
system can be used for multiple routes.

3.

Configure a command device line.

Configure the command device lines to be defined for the route. If you define multiple command
device lines in a route and add route labels to them, you can use different command device
lines for multiple tasks.

4.

Check the logical path between storage systems.

To define routes, a logical path is required that is in the same direction as the route.

CAUTION:

In some configurations, multiple hosts might not be able to share the same command

device. For configurations in which command devices cannot be shared, see

“Configuration for

which the same command device cannot be shared from multiple hosts” (page 743)

.

Defining the route list

This subsection explains how to define the route list.

Procedure for defining the route list

To define the route list, define the link (route) between storage systems, and then define a command
device line along the route.

The procedure for defining the route list is explained by using the configuration example in the
following figure.
