Making Electrical Simulation Cables

Index 2MFE is capable of electrically simulating a probe on a patient connected to an

oximeter.

W

Caution

To avoid damage to the oximeter and the Simulator, do not
attempt to use a self-made interface cable. Use only the cable
supplied with the unit. Use of the information presented here
constitutes acknowledgment of risks involved with using any
“do-it-yourself” oximeter test interface between the Simulator
and any oximeter.

The following list is not exhaustive, but you should be familiar with all of the electronic

details of:

The oximeter LED drive circuit

How the oximeter decides if a probe is present

Whether the photodiode input amplifier circuit is characterized as follows:

Single-ended

Differential

A current-to-voltage converter

Grounded photodiode

DC biased photodiode

Photodiode floated separately from the LEDs

Polarity of the photodiode connections

W

Caution

To avoid damage to the oximeter and the Simulator, take into
account all of the relevant details of the oximeter’s probe
operating scheme. Under no circumstances shall Fluke
Biomedical be responsible for any damages.

Figure G-4 is the hardwire test interface from the Index 2MF.
