SIC-EPON

Introduction

The SIC-EPON is an EPON access module applicable to routers. Working as an ONU, it connects to an
OLT to access the Ethernet with a single fiber, providing solutions for FTTB, FTTC and FTTH. The
SIC-EPON delivers the following functions:

One 1000 Mbps Layer 3 GE interface

z

Single fiber access

z

1000 Mbps physical line rate

z

Multiple ONUs connecting to one OLT port, and TDM for uplink bandwidth.

When you connect the SIC-EPON to an OLT, a passive optical splitter (POS) is needed. You need to
connect the inbound fiber of the POS to an OLT port, and connect the outbound fibers to ONUs, namely,
the SIC-EPON interfaces; therefore, a tree topology can be formed from the OLT port to the ONU ports.

When connecting a SIC-EPON interface to an OLT, use a POS. For the connection diagram, refer to

Figure 2-98
