Working with Views and Editors

Chapter 4. Tasks

Creating Fast Views

Fast views are hidden views that can be quickly opened and closed. These views work similar to other
views except they do not take up space in the Workbench window.

To create a fast view:

1. Click and hold on the title bar of the view to be saved as a fast view.

2. Drag the view to the Fast View bar and release the mouse button. By default the shortcut bar is located

in the lower left corner of the window.

Alternatively, click on the button located on the left side of the Fast View bar, presenting a selection of views.
Selecting one of these views adds it to the Fast View bar immediately.

The icon for the fast view created now appears on the shortcut bar. This view can be accessed by clicking its
icon on the shortcut bar. Clicking anywhere outside the view hides the fast view. To restore the view to its
original location (and delete the fast view), toggle the fast view item in the view button’s context menu.

Fast views can also be created and restored by selecting Fast View from the context menu that opens when
clicking the icon at the left side of the view’s title bar.

Tiling Editors

The Workbench allows multiple files to be open in multiple editors. Unlike views, editors cannot be dragged
outside the Workbench to create new windows. However, editor sessions can be tiled within the editor area
in order to view source files side by side:

1. With two or more files open in the editor area, select one of the editor tabs.

2. Holding down the left mouse button, drag that editor over the left, right, top or bottom border of the

editor area. The mouse pointer changes to a drop cursor, indicating where the editor session is to be
moved when the mouse button is released.

3. (Optional) Drag the borders of the editor area or each editor, to resize as desired.

Note:

This operation is a similar to moving and docking views inside the Workbench, except that all editor

sessions must be contained within the editor area.

Maximizing a View or Editor

A view can be temporarily maximized to fill the Workbench window.

1. Open the menu for the view or editor by clicking the icon at the far left of its title bar. (or right-click

anywhere in the title bar.)

2. Select Maximize.

To restore the view or editor to its previous position and size:

1. Open the menu again.

2. Select Restore.

Note:

A view or editor can also be maximized or restored by double-clicking its title bar or using the

Maximize/Restore icon.
