Selecting the AF Operation
AF-Assist Beam
The AF-assist beam may fire repeatedly when you press the shutter button
halfway under low light or in similar conditions, to make autofocusing easier.

The AF-assist beam does not fire when

: AF operation]
is set to
[Servo
AF]
.
o
The AF-assist beam does not fire when Touch AF is used (when
[
z
: Touch
Shutter]
is set to
[Disable]
).
o
When you are using an external flash unit, either the camera or the flash unit
fires an AF-assist beam as needed. However, only the camera’s AF-assist
beam fires when you are using a Speedlite 90EX, Macro Ring Lite, or Macro
Twin Lite.
o
A small series of flashes is fired even if you set the external flash’s AF-assist
beam emission method in the Personal Functions to infrared AF-assist beam
firing. To disable AF-assist beam firing, set
[
z
: AF-assist beam firing]
to
[Disable]
o
Focus range with the AF-assist beam is generally no more than 3.5 m/11.5 ft.
