(4) Connecting the Fax to Your Computer

1. Turn the power to your computer OFF and unplug the fax’s power

cord from the outlet.
* As all data remaining in memory will be lost once power to the

fax is disconnected, verify that there is no important data in
memory BEFORE unplugging the power cord. The amount of
memory available is shown in the message display as a
percentage of the total memory. If 100% is not displayed, there is
data remaining in memory. Print out or transmit that data, as
appropriate, before removing power to the fax.

(5) RS-232C Mode ON/OFF

In order to make use of RS-232C functions of this fax, the optional
RS-232C board must be installed and the RS-232C mode turned ON.
Once the RS-232C mode is ON, in addition to fax communication and
copying, the RS-232C functions of this fax can be utilised.
* This setting will not be available if the optional RS-232C board is

NOT installed.

* To cancel the procedure part way through, press the STOP key.

The message display will revert to the initial mode.

* If Restricted access is turned ON, it is first necessary to enter the

registered management password and then press the ENTER
FUNCTION key. Refer to “(5) Entering Your Access Code”, page 7-28.

1. Press the FUNCTION key.

2. Press the (

) cursor key until the following message appears in

the message display.

3. Press the ENTER FUNCTION key.

4. Press the (

) cursor key once.

5. Press the ENTER FUNCTION key.

6. Use the cursor keys (

) (

) to select whether you want to turn the

RS-232C mode ON or OFF.

7. Press the ENTER FUNCTION key. The RS-232C functions of this

fax will be available for use.

8. Press the STOP key. The message display will revert to the initial

mode.

2. Connect the serial port on the fax to the serial port on your

computer with an RS-232C cable. Tighten the screws to attach the
cable connector securely to the connector on the fax.
