Page Setup tab

In order to print out a file directly from within an application, it is NOT
necessary to open the Properties dialogue box. However, in order to
change such settings as the number of copies to be made or to
change the orientation of the printout, it is necessary to change the
settings in the Page Setup tab.

* There are some applications which allow you to make settings such

as the number of copies from within the application itself. In general,
such settings should be ignored, and only those settings in the
Properties dialogue box used. If the settings within the application
are used, they may be applied simultaneously with those in the
Properties dialogue box and unexpected results may occur in the
printout.

• Paper size

Select the size of paper that is presently set in the printer. To change
the setting, use the Paper size drop-down list to select the
appropriate paper size.
Acceptable sizes of paper for use with this printer: A4 and FOLIO

• Paper source

If the Optional Cassette is installed, select the desired cassette for
paper feed. In this case, selecting Auto will allow the fax to
automatically select the size of paper most appropriate to the job.

• Orientation

Click on Portrait or Landscape, as desired.

• Copies

Enter the desired number of copies (1 - 99) directly from the keyboard
or click on the arrows (

) (

) on the right side of the Copies field

until the desired number is displayed.

• Print on Both Sides (Duplex Printing)

Select in order to perform Duplex printing. Select either Bind long
edge
and Bind short edge to designate the edge by which the paper
which will be turned over. Select None to print on only one side of the
paper.

Making settings in the Advanced tab

In order to make more detailed settings than those available in the
Page Setup tab, further setting is possible in the Advanced tab.
Those items available for setting will be displayed by name and with
an icon in the upper field of the Advanced tab. More detailed settings
can be accessed under each of the main items – Paper/Output,
Graphic, and Document Options. If these settings are not visible,
click on the icon for the corresponding main item. Click on one of
these settings and the lower field will change to display the available
options for that setting. To change the present setting, click on the
desired option in that field.

Paper/Output

The available settings under this item is the same as that in the Page
Setup
tab.

Graphic

• Resolution

Click on the Resolution icon and select the desired value in the lower
field: 300 dpi or 600 dpi. Normally, the most appropriate resolution is
600 dpi. However, there may be cases when the computer cannot
send that data at a speed sufficient for the printer. If such a system
overrun occurs, change the printing resolution setting to 300 dpi.

Document Options

• Pattern

Click on the Pattern icon to select the desired pattern in the lower
field: Mesh, Spiral or Line art. To bring out as much shading in
colours and as much of the greyscale in the image as possible, select
both Mesh and Spiral. To achieve higher resolution of the image,
select Mesh only. To emphasise overall tone clarity, select Spiral
only. To bring out the contrast between the black and white, select
Line art.

• Brightness

Adjusts the brightness of the printout. Click on the Brightness icon
and enter the desired value in the lower field: between -64 and 64.
Enter the desired value directly from the keyboard or click on the
arrows (

) (

) until the desired number is displayed. Lower the

displayed number to darken the setting and raise the number to
lighten the setting.

• Gamma value

Adjusts the halftone density level. Click on the Gamma value icon
and select one of the 3 available levels in the lower field: 0.5, 1.4, 2.2

• Compression method

To enable data compression, click on the Compression method icon
to select the desired compression method in the lower field: AUTO,
Text or Picture. Select AUTO to have the software choose the
compression method most appropriate to the file to be printed. Select
Text when there is a large amount of text in the file to be printed and
Picture when there is a large amount of photographs, graphics or
illustrations in the file to be printed.

• Smoothing

Click on the Smoothing icon and select whether or not to turn the
Smoothing function ON or OFF in the lower field. Turn the Smoothing
function ON to smooth out the edges of text and print text at its
maximum quality.

Status Window

Information regard the print job currently in progress is displayed in
the Status Window dialogue box. When printing is initiated from
within an application, or if printing troubles develop, the Status
Window
dialogue box will be displayed automatically.

Printer error

If printing troubles develop, the Status Window dialogue box will be
displayed. Information regarding the cause of the trouble as well as
directions for resolving it may be found under the Status tab and the
Status Overall tab.
