Encryption communication allows encryption of documents prior to
their transmission. In this way, third parties are prevented from
seeing the actual documents even if they should be able to access
the transmission itself, making this function extremely beneficial for
sending strictly confidential information.
* To successfully accomplish encryption, and then the

corresponding decryption, both the transmitting and receiving
parties must use the same encryption key and register it under
the same encryption key ID. If the encryption keys and key IDs
used by both parties do not match EXACTLY, Encryption
communication will not be possible. Therefore, it is necessary for
both parties to determine, in advance, the encryption key which
will be used and the encryption key ID that it will be registered
under.

* To accomplish Encryption communication, the other party’s fax

must be one of our models which possesses Encryption
communication capabilities. (Some models, however, are not
compatible.)

* It is first necessary to enter the currently registered management

password before you can register an encryption key. To change
the password from its factory default setting of “6482”, carry out
the procedure described in “(7) Changing the Management
Password”, page 7-28.

* Each destination fax number can only be entered with an

abbreviated number, one-touch key or group dial key. It cannot
be entered with the keypad.

* This fax is capable of automatically transmitting documents to up

to 145 different destinations in a single operation.

* Encryption transmission can only be accomplished if the

predetermined encryption key is registered in advance. Then –
during registration of an abbreviated number or one-touch key –
it is necessary to designate that abbreviated number or one-
touch key for Encryption transmission and select the encryption
key ID corresponding to the encryption key, or, to register a
group dial key using abbreviated numbers and/or one-touch keys
that have been designated for Encryption transmission in that
way. (Refer to “(1) Registering” under “One-Touch Keys”,
page 2-19, and under “Abbreviated Numbers”, page 2-22.)

* Encryption transmission can only be accomplished if the

transmitting party designates the abbreviated number, one-touch
key or group dial key – under which the destination fax number(s)
is/are registered – for Encryption transmission and registers a
SUB (subaddress) that matches the Confidential box number of
the destination Confidential box.

* A maximum of 20 encryption keys can be registered in this fax.
