Dual Line Kit

(1) The Dual Line Function

The Dual line function allows you send documents to one party while
receiving documents from another, or to send documents to two
separate locations at the same time.
Normally, only one telephone line can be used with one facsimile.
However, by installing the optional Dual line board, this facsimile may
be connected to two separate phone lines at the same time. (In order
to use the Dual line function, two separate phone lines are required.)
The 1st line is connected to the line jack that is included with this
facsimile. The 2nd line is connected to the line jack in the optional
Dual line board.
When the Dual Line Kit is installed, fax transmission is generally
performed using the 2nd line. If the 2nd line is occupied with another
fax communication, the facsimile will automatically switch to the 1st
line for a subsequent fax transmission. By performing fax
transmissions on the first open line, the amount of time waiting for
documents to be transmitted is reduced. (This is the factory default
setting when Transmission line priority is turned OFF.)
When Transmission line priority is turned ON, the 2nd line alone will
be designated for fax transmission. The 1st line will be left open for
fax reception or communicating with a separately purchased
telephone. However, regardless of the Transmission line priority
setting, fax reception and polling transmission settings (including F-
code based confidential polling transmission) will be possible over
both the 1st and 2nd line.
The procedure to cancel a communication differs according to which
line is being used for the communication. It is possible to confirm
which line is being used for a communication (1st line or 2nd line) by
printing out the Confirmation report. Refer to “Confirmation Report”,
page 8-4.
One-touch keys, etc., under which a party’s number is registered can
be used for communication on either line. The Redial function will dial
the most recently dialled number regardless of whether the 1st line or
the 2nd line was used.

The following settings must be performed separately for the 1st line
and the 2nd line.
• Fax forwarding settings
• Confidential box settings (Registration and Printing Out Documents

from a Confidential Box)

• Relay box settings (Registration)
• Self-station information registration (fax number and name)
• Number of rings setting
• Cancelling a communication

It is necessary to first select either the 1st line or the 2nd when
performing the following operations. Select the desired line according
to the message in the message display.

• Polling transmission (including scanning documents into a

Confidential box)

• Printing out a Delayed Communication Report (Memory Entry

Report)

• Printing out a Confidential file list
• Printing out a Confidential box report
• Printing out a Relay box report

When both lines are occupied with communications, it is first
necessary to select the desired line in order to interrupt a
communication on that line.
