(10) Setting the Scanning Parameters

Click on Acquire… from within the TWAIN compatible software in
use in your computer to open the Scanning Control dialogue box
and allow setting of the various scanning parameters as desired.
BE SURE to verify each setting before clicking on Start to initiate the
scanning operation.

The follow settings are available under the Scanning Control
dialogue box.

Scan Mode: Use the drop-down list to select the scanning mode

appropriate to the image being scanned.

- Bi-level…For originals which contain a large amount of text
- Half-Tone…For originals which contain photographs or a large
amount of greys

Resolution: Use the drop-down list to select the scanning

resolution.
- Normal…100 dpi x 100 dpi
- Fine…200 dpi x 200 dpi
- Super Fine…400 dpi x 400 dpi

Contrast: Use the drop-down list to select the contrast most

appropriate to the image being scanned.
- Normal…Images will be scanned at normal contrast
- Light…Light images will be scanned at a darker contrast

Option

Click on Option in the Scanning Control dialogue box to open the
Option dialogue box. The follow settings are available under the
Option dialogue box.

Connect port: Use the drop-down list to select the port on your

computer to which the scanner is connected.

Available settings: COM1, COM2, COM3 and COM4

Serial Speed: Use the drop-down list to select the communication

speed between the scanner and your computer.
Available settings: 38,400bps, 19,200bps and 9,600bps

(11) Scanning

1. Set the original to be scanned on the document table.

2. Click on Select Source from within the TWAIN compatible

software in use in your computer.

3. Select the driver for this scanner in the Scanning dialogue box

which is displayed.

4. Click on Acquire… from within the TWAIN compatible software in

use in your computer to open the Scanning Control dialogue box.

5. Set the scanning parameters, such as the resolution and contrast,

as desired.

6. Click on Start.

Scanning will begin.
* During scanning, a dialogue box will appear and will display

information regarding the scan job currently in progress.

* To cancel the scan job in progress, click on Cancel.

Scanning will stop and the display will return to the Scanning
Control
dialogue box.

Once scanning is completed, the data corresponding to the scanned
image will be transmitted to the computer and that data will be
translated into bitmap data.

7. Once translation of the data is completed, the scanned image will

appear within the window of the TWAIN compatible software in use
in your computer. Use the application software to edit the image, if
desired. For a detailed explanation of editing the image, refer to
the instruction manual of the related application software.

(12) Error Messages

If scanning troubles develop, a dialogue box will appear and display
one of the following messages. Perform the corresponding procedure
to resolve the trouble.

• Place original

There was no original set on the document table when the scanning
procedure began.
Set the original to be scanned on the document table and then click
on OK. Scanning will resume. To cancel the scan job in progress,
click on Cancel. The display will return to the Scanning Control
dialogue box.

• Document Jam

An original has jammed in the document table. Follow the procedure
in “A Document or Original has Jammed”, page 6-7, and reset the
jammed original. To restart scanning, click on Retry. Scanning will
resume. To cancel the scan job in progress, click on Cancel. The
display will return to the Scanning Control dialogue box.

• Communication Error. Check Setting./Scanner Cable.

The serial cable is not attached to the scanner and computer ports
securely or the cable is not of the correct type. To restart scanning,
connect the appropriate serial cable correctly and then click on Retry.
Scanning will resume. To cancel the scan job in progress, click on
Cancel. The display will return to the Scanning Control dialogue
box.
