Fax Operation (Various Functions)

1. Confirm that only the MANUAL RX. indicator is lit.

* If it is not lit, or if the MESSAGE TEL. indicator is lit as well, press

the reception mode select key until only the MANUAL RX.
indicator is lit.

2. If the telephone rings, pick up the telephone receiver.

Manual fax reception is accomplished as follows

If the other party’s voice can be heard…

3. Speak with the other party.

If you hear a fax tone…

3. Press the START key.

Fax reception will begin.
* Hang up the receiver when “COMMUNICATION” appears in the

message display.

* If you are using a telephone with tone dialling capabilities, it is

possible to answer using the Remote switching function.
(Refer to “Remote Switching”, page 7-2.)

After the separately purchased telephone rings a designated
number of times, and if the incoming call is from a facsimile, fax
reception will start automatically. If the call is from a telephone, a
different bell will ring in the fax and may be answered from the
telephone.
* Auto FAX/TEL switching is only possible if a separately

purchased telephone is connected to this fax.

* To use the Auto FAX/TEL switching mode, it is necessary to

select “TEL/FAX SWITCH” in “Changing the Automatic Reception
Mode”, page 9-10.

* Even if you are not there, or do not answer the telephone, the

calling party will incur telephone charges starting at the point
after the bell rings the initial designated number of times.

Auto FAX/TEL Switching

1. Confirm that both the MESSAGE TEL. indicator and the MANUAL

RX. indicator are out.
* If either is lit, press the reception mode select key until both

indicators are out.

Auto FAX/TEL switching is accomplished as follows

2. The telephone will ring a designated number of times (1 - 11).

* In order to set the number of times the telephone will ring, refer to

“Number of Rings”, page 9-9.

* If the telephone receiver is picked up while the bell is still ringing,

this facsimile will deal with the call in the same manner as a
standard Manual fax reception. Refer to “Manual Fax Reception”,
page 4-4, and perform the procedure explained there starting
from step 3.
