Setting Up the Printer

To set up a parallel printer for use with the system:

Log on to the system as root.

Enter cd /etc/uucp

Edit the Systems file to add an entry for the printer. This entry must
include the hex representation for the printer IP address and port.

hp4si Any hplaser - \x002<hex value for port><hex value for IP
address>

For example, hp4si Any hplaser - \x0002238cc776928 uses 238c as the
hex representation for port 9100 and c7769828 as the hex representation
for IP address 199.118.152.40.

Edit the Devices file with the following line:

hp4si tcp - - TLI \D

Save and exit the Devices file.

Enter
lpsystem -tbsd -Tnever -R0 -y”printer_name IP_address” hp4si

where

printer_name

and

IP_address

are appropriate for the printer you

are adding.

Enter lpadmin -php4si -Uhp4si -Ipcl -Thplaserjet
