Connecting the PC to Explorer
Personal Computer
WARNING
Do not connect a PC to Explorer in hazardous locations.
Use the supplied communication cable (Part No. MX380304 with USB to
Serial Adapter PN 42530000) to connect the computer to Explorer. The
communication cable is a 25 to 9 pin cable.
1. Turn Explorer off.
You must turn the instrument off before connecting or disconnecting the
communication cable.
2. Connect the 9-pin connector end of the communication cable (MX380304) to
the RS-232 port on Explorer.
Connect the 25-pin connector end to an unused serial port on your computer.
The serial port may be identified as COM 1 or COM 2. You will need one of
the two adapters, supplied with the communication cable. If you have
connected the communication cable directly to the computer you are most
likely connected to a parallel port.
NOTE: Explorer cannot communicate with a parallel port.
