1 VFM overview

The Virtual Application Network (VAN) Fabric Manager (VFM) component is data center management

software based on the IMC Platform. VAN uses virtualization, automation, and software-defined

networking (SDN) technologies. A fabric is a network composed of FCoE switches, servers, and storage
devices.
VFM is positioned to offer an integrated solution for managing both the LANs and SANs in data centers

by working with HP/H3C devices. VFM depends on VNM to obtain virtual machine (VM) migration

information.
VFM provides the following functions:

At a Glance.

VAN Fabric Topology.

DC Management.

SAN Configuration.

LAN Configuration.

Statistics.

At a Glance

This function presents the following information to operators in charts and figures:

Status of network devices managed by VFM.

Top 5 DCs with the most devices.

Device view by type in SANs.

Fabric view.

LAN network topology.

Top 5 EVI services.

Top 5 VMs with the most migrations for the last 24 hours.

Top 5 VMs with the longest single-migration durations for the last week.

VAN Fabric Topology

The VAN fabric topology includes the SAN topology and LAN topology.
The SAN topology presents and manages fabrics and connections among switches, servers, and

storage devices in the fabrics.
The LAN topology presents and manages TRILL, SPB, and EVI networks.
