Chapter 9 Analyzing Digital Sources and Cables

The image resolution of the passthru video will not scale to the native resolution of the
display used to monitor the incoming video. In other words, if the monitoring display is
1080 and the incoming video signal is 720p you will see the entire image in the upper
left area of the monitoring display with unused portions of the display on the bottom and
right area. Alternatively, if the 882EA generator/analyzer is receiving 1080 video but the
monitoring display is only capable of displaying a 720p image then you will not see the
entire image.

When the generator is in passthru mode, you will not be able to monitor a video signal
that is looped from that generator’s HDMI Tx port (either the HDMI Tx 1 or the HDMI
Tx 2).

If the incoming video is in 4:2:2 sampling mode, the HDMI passthru video will be
converted to 4:4:4 sampling. The 4:2:2 sampling mode is not supported in passthru
mode.

If the incoming video is in 12 bit deep color, the HDMI passthru video will only be able
to display 10 bit deep color.

The frame rate of the HDMI Tx passthru video is the frame rate of the format selected
on the generator. This means that a scan conversion will occur. If the incoming video is
720p24 and the generator’s output is set to 720p60, then the video signal displayed on
the monitoring display will be at 720p at 60Hz.

The scan setting (progressive or interlaced) of the HDMI Tx passthru video is the scan
setting of the format selected on the generator for the HDMI Tx outputs.

If the incoming video is content protected with HDCP, it will not be available on the
HDMI passthru interface. (This will be supported in a future release.)

The monitored audio output is available from the SPDIF Out BNC connector when the
generator is in passthru mode. A BNC to RCA adapter cable (30-00123) is provided to
enable you to connect the SPDIF audio to an RCA coaxial input of a sound system or a
digital audio analyzer. (Note in a future release, the audio will also be available in the
HDMI Tx passthru output. Currently the audio that is embedded in the HDMI passthru Tx
stream is that of the 882EA’s internal sonic generator.)

To monitor HDMI 1.3 input:

1. Connect the HDMI source device to an HDMI IN connector on the generator.
