4. Instrument Setup

4.4.6 The paraffin baths

• The instrument has three heated paraffin baths (58), each

with a max. capacity of 4.9 l of liquid paraffin.

• They are located behind a flap (57) over the reagent compart-

ment with the system bottles (15).

To access the flap, open the two lower Plexiglas doors (11, 12).
• The individual paraffin baths can be pulled out for filling

(

Fig. 41

) and can also be removed from the compartment

for cleaning.

• The baths can be filled with liquid paraffin manually or from

the paraffin station. It is also possible to fill with pellets - the
melting time then is approx. 720 min.

Caution!

Never attempt to forcefully remove the wax

baths when the instrument is cold, because

doing so can damage the instrument.

Caution!

Proceed slowly and carefully when pulling out

or removing a paraffin bath—never jerk it

out. The paraffin inside it is fluid and hot—it

can cause burns. The handles and covers are

also hot, therefore always wear gloves and

proceed carefully.
