INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
KEEP ALL PARTS CLEAN FROM CONTAMINANTS.CONTAMI-
NANTS MAY CAUSE RAPID WEAR AND SHORTENED COMPONENT
LIFE.
NOTE: The installation procedure is similar for the two cylin-
der, the three cylinder and the four cylinder engines.
The illustrations show the four cylinder engine.
7. Ensure that the valve mechanism cover is clean and
free from damage. Clean the mating surface of base
(8).
8. If necessary, install the crankcase breather. Refer to
Disassembly and Assembly, “Crankcase Breather -
Remove and Install” for more information.
9. Install a new joint (9) to valve mechanism cover (7).
10. Position valve mechanism cover (7) onto housing (8)
and install bolts (4) finger tight.
11. Install new washers (6) and nuts (5) finger tight.
12. For 402D-05, 403D-07, 403D-11 and 404D-15
engines, evenly tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 10
N·m (89 lb in). Tighten nuts (5) to a torque of 10 N·m
(89 lb in).
13. If necessary, position a new gasket (3) onto valve
mechanism cover (7) and install connection (2).
Install bolts (1) and tighten to a torque of 14 N·m
(124 lb in).
14. Connect the hose (not shown) to connection (2) and
tighten the hose clamps.
