If you drag a different background to the Work Area or to an existing menu on the Menu
Gallery, it replaces the existing background.

The first menu (on the left) in the Menu Gallery is significant in that it is the "First Play"
item - it is the first thing that displays when the title is played. It is also displayed when
pressing a DVD player's Title Menu button.

Adding and Assigning a Button

There are two approaches to adding buttons to a menu. The first is to drag the button onto
the Work Area and then assign an asset to it. The second approach is to drag the asset onto
the menu and either have a default button automatically assigned to it or to manually
assign a button to it.
To add a button to a menu background:

• Select the Buttons tab in the Media Gallery to display icons of the current buttons.

Note: By default, there is always at least one button (a simple

rectangle) displayed. See the Assets topic for details on loading buttons.

• Click on the desired button and drag it onto the menu background. Releasing the

mouse button drops it into place.

To set the button's size and position:

The button displays at its default "as built" size (unless you are close to the right or bottom
edges, where it is sized to fit on screen). A thumbnail frame button displays the icon of the
menu background until a movie or menu is assigned to it.
Position a button by clicking on it and dragging it to where you want it. Use the keyboard's
arrow keys to nudge the position. SpruceUp restricts the button to the screen - you cannot
drag it off the edges.
Change the button's size by placing the cursor over the red outline – the cursor changes to
a double-headed arrow when positioned correctly. You can now click and drag the edge to
the desired size. You can also position over a corner and control both horizontal and vertical
sizes simultaneously. To change the size proportionately (maintaining the button's current
aspect ratio), hold down the keyboard's Shift button while dragging the edge.

To assign a movie to a button:

• Select the Media Gallery Movies tab to display the movies currently loaded.
• Drag the movie to the button you wish to assign it to.

A thumbnail frame button (if used) now changes to the thumbnail of the movie. While a
solid buttons will not change, it still links to the movie. Confirm the link by placing the
mouse cursor over the button to view the tool tip showing its target.
To assign a menu to a button:

• Make sure there are more than one menu displayed in the Menu Gallery. If not, see

Setting the Background (in this topic) for how to create multiple menus.

• Drag the menu from the Menu Gallery to the button you wish to assign it to.

A thumbnail frame button (if used) now changes to the thumbnail of the menu. You cannot
drag a background to a button with the intention of using it for a menu later – SpruceUp
interprets a background being dragged directly to a button (as opposed to the Menu
Gallery) as a request to change the current menu's background.
