SpruceUp User’s Guide

Pull Down Menus

The Menu Bar along the top of the SpruceUp window contains the pull down menus for
accessing many of its features and settings. Access these by:

• Using the mouse to click on them.
• Using the keyboard equivalents.
• Using the keyboard shortcuts.

Use the keyboard equivalents by holding the Alt button down and typing the underlined
letter of the pull down you want (the letter's case, upper or lower, does not matter). Once a
pull down opens, you no longer need to use the Alt button – simply press the letter of the
desired function. For example, press Alt + h then h again to open this help dialog.
Use the keyboard shortcuts by pressing the buttons displayed along the right of menu
items. For example, press F1 to access this help, or Ctrl + 4 to open the Launch Window.
Note that some items are grayed out depending on the mode you are in and what is
selected. For example, the Preferences selection of the File menu is active only when in the
Author mode. This avoids problems that making Preference changes might cause while in
the other modes.

File Pull Down

The File pull down menu contains functions relating to a project (from creating a new one to
saving it), the system preferences dialog, and the program's exit function.

New – Ctrl + N

Select this to start a new project. You are prompted to save the current project (if one
is open).

Open... – Ctrl + O

Select this to open an existing project. A standard Windows file location dialog opens,
allowing you to browse to the project. All SpruceUp projects have an ".sup" extension
and templates have an ".sut" extension. Use the recent file area of this pull down to
quickly access the last four projects created.

Close – Ctrl + W

Use this to close the current project and set SpruceUp to a blank starting state. You
are prompted to save the current project before it is closed.

Import – Ctrl + Shift + I

This opens the Add Media Asset dialog for adding assets to the Media Gallery.

Save – Ctrl + S

Use this to save the current project. If it already has been named and saved, then
Save changes the existing file's extension to ".bak" (removing the previous ".bak" file
if it exists) and writes a new file with the ".sup" extension. You cannot open the ".bak"
file directly with SpruceUp – change the file's extension to ".sup" if you need to open
it.

If this is a new project ("Untitled" displayed in the upper-left of the window),
SpruceUp prompts you to name it and select the folder to keep it in.

Tip: An asterisk displays next to the file name on SpruceUp's Title Bar
