Using the Alignment and Sizing Tools

SpruceUp provides a number of powerful tools to help you align selected buttons and text
entries, and to make selected buttons the same size.

These tools display at the bottom of the Work Area in its Tool Bar. They display as soon as
you select at least one item within the menu. While they all display, all are grayed out
except for those applicable to the items selected.

Surprising Results!

Use care with these tools – it is not hard to get into a situation where buttons end up
"missing" or items overlay that you had not intended. Use the SpruceUp undo function (click
Edit then Undo or Ctrl + Z) to revert to the last menu display.

Selecting Multiple Items

Select multiple items by holding the keyboard's Ctrl button down while clicking on them.
The last selected item always has a red outline, indicating it is the master. The master item
can be significant, depending on the tool being used. The other items have green outlines.

The Alignment Buttons

The alignment buttons can be divided into three groups: Those that align to an edge, those
that align to the center, and those that evenly space items.

Edge Alignment Buttons

These buttons become active whenever you select more than one item in a menu. The
master item (outlined in red) is the reference that the others are forced to match.
These tools can easily make items appear to be "missing". For example, selecting two
vertically aligned buttons then pressing the left align tool will make them overlap, with the
lower priority button disappearing. Either use the Undo function or de-select them (click on
a blank part of the Work Area) then select the top one and drag it off of the bottom one and
try again.

Center Alignment Buttons

These buttons behave differently depending on whether one or multiple items are selected.

With one item selected, pressing one of these buttons aligns it to the center of the screen,
either horizontally or vertically.
With multiple items selected, pressing one of these Center Alignment Buttons aligns the
green outlined items to the master (red outlined) item.

To align multiple items to the center of the screen, first align one of items, then use it as a
master and align the others to match it.
