Menus as Simple Slide Shows

A common desire is to create a "slide show", presenting a series of still images in a preset
order. The easiest way to do this is with editing software (Adobe Premiere for example) that
can easily create a show with transitions between the stills and add audio (music or
commentary) playing along with it.
SpruceUp has the ability to create a very simple slide show by making menus out of the
stills. You need to assign buttons to each, providing a means to go to the next menu/still,
and possibly to go back to the previous or to a home menu. While there is no way to
provide transitions or audio, this can be a quick way to present a series of stills.

Note: The DVD specification requires a title to have at least one

movie. A slide show must have at least one movie, either as a first play
item or assigned to a button on one of the menus.

Resources

SpruceUp supports up to 10,000 menus, however the actual number you can use depends
on your own resources and the background assets.
One limit is the size of the DVD compiled file containing the menus (Vts_01_0.vob in the
video_ts directory) - the DVD specification restricts this to a maximum file size of 1GB. The
MPEG files of backgrounds based on actual pictures (as opposed to relatively simple
graphics) tend to average about 150KB to 250KB each. This leaves room for 4,000 to 6,000
menus in this file.

Actually Building the Title

As mentioned earlier, you will most likely want to have three buttons on each menu:
Previous, Next, and Home. Assuming these buttons will be the same on all menus, it is
easier to make the first menu then duplicate it. You now have the next menu with buttons
already in place (and the Home button already linked), and all you have to do is drag in its
background. You will have to go through and manually link the Previous and Next buttons.

Keep in mind that the Menu Gallery is not a timeline display, and the menus/slides do not
have to appear in the gallery's order. There is no provision for rearranging this order.
