Adding Drop Shadows

SpruceUp has a Drop Shadow tool designed to make it easy to add drop shadows to menu
buttons and text. You set the position of the shadow, its color, opacity (transparency), and
how blurred (soft) it appears.

Turning Drop Shadows On and Off

The Drop Shadow button on the Work Area Toolbar turns the shadow on and off for the
selected items. It has three states:

Drop Shadow Off – This indicates that the drop shadow is off for the currently

selected item(s). Pressing this button toggles the drop shadow on for these items. Turning
on drop shadow applies the default drop shadow properties to the item(s), unless it
previously had a custom drop shadow assigned to it – those items return to their earlier
drop shadow settings. All items selected will use the drop shadow properties of the master
item (the last item selected, highlighted in red).

Drop Shadow On – This indicates that the drop shadow is on for the currently selected

item(s). Pressing this button toggles the drop shadow off for these items.

Drop Shadow Mixed – This only applies when multiple items are selected and some

have drop shadow on and some have it off. Pressing this button switches the state of the
master item and ensures that the remaining items have the same state as the master item.

• If the master item had drop shadow off, then shadow is turned on for all items and is

set to the master item's properties (or to the default properties if the master item did
not previously have a drop shadow). Those items that already had a drop shadow are
forced to match the master item.

• If the master item had drop shadow on, then the shadow is turned off for all items. If

toggled again, the shadow turns on for all items, with the setting for all matching the
master item's properties (as displayed in the Drop Shadow Properties dialog, if
shown).

Setting Default On/Off Status

You can set the drop shadow status (on or off) for new items added to the menu.

1 Click on a blank part of the Work Area so that no current items are selected.

2 The Drop Shadow button now displays the default on/off status. Toggle it to the

desired status.

Any items you add will now match the status you selected. Note that you do not see a
shadow on text as you type it – it displays once you exit the text typing mode.

Setting Drop Shadow Properties

Use the Drop Shadow Properties dialog to set the attributes of an item's drop shadow. Open
the dialog by right-clicking on the item to change, and select DropShadow Properties.
You may also use the View menu's Drop Shadow Properties function, or press Ctrl + 6.

Note: The on/off status cannot be changed from the Drop Shadow

Properties dialog. The On and Off buttons are disabled and only reflect the
status of the Drop Shadow button described earlier.
