Typing Text

SpruceUp contains a text editor for typing text on your menus. This text can provide menu
titles, identify buttons, and provide other information useful to the viewer.
You can have multiple text entries per menu, each completely independent, using different
font, size, and color attributes. Text is limited to a single line per entry.

How To Start

Start typing text by simply clicking where you want it to be. This needs to be an open area
of the menu (no buttons or text). The text can easily be repositioned later. A blinking cursor
displays at the point you clicked, indicating that you can now start typing. In addition, the
text attribute controls display in the Work Area's Tool Bar.

Set these prior to typing or change them after.

Note: Changing the text attribute controls removes the cursor from

the Work Area. Simply re-click at the point to type the text.

Once you have typed the text, exit the text entry mode by clicking on an open part of the
Work Area. A red box surrounds the text indicating it is the currently selected item, and any
changes made to the text attributes apply to it.

Note: You cannot exit the text typing mode by clicking directly to

the right of the text, since this area is considered part of the current text
you are typing.

Setting the Color

The color chip shows the current color. Click it to change the color, opening the Color dialog.
See the Using the Color Dialog topic for details.

Setting the Font and its Attributes

Select a font by clicking on the down arrow next to the font name. This opens a submenu
listing all fonts registered to your system. Use the scroll button to locate the desired font
and click on it to make it the current one.
Selected text (if any) immediately changes to the new font. Any new typed text will also use
the new font.
You can also toggle the bold, italics, and underline attributes on and off as desired.
Select the font size by either:

• Pressing the down arrow next to the size value and selecting the desired size from the

list displayed.

• Highlighting the existing size value and typing over it with the desired size, then

pressing the keyboard's Enter button.

• Positioning the mouse cursor over an edge of the selected text entry and dragging it to

interactively change the size. Note that you cannot independently change the height
or width - the text always maintains its defined aspect ratio.
