Preferences

The Preferences dialog displays the first time you run SpruceUp, and can be opened at any
time by opening the File pull down menu and selecting Preferences or using the keyboard
shortcut of Ctrl + 7.
Use the Preferences dialog to set several SpruceUp parameters. These are not typically
project specific, but apply to all projects created with the system. For this reason, you
generally need to set these up only once.

NTSC/PAL Selection

The NTSC/PAL selection is very important, as it must match the video standard of the assets
you will use with SpruceUp. Once set, this setting will not change in most instances. An
exception is if you create projects in both formats.

Important: This setting only applies to projects created after it is set.

It does not affect the current project or any previously saved projects.
Currently SpruceUp allows you to build a project using assets that do not
match the selected standard, however it will not compile the project.

Selecting NTSC or PAL typically requires you to match the standard used in your country.
See the Video Standards of the World topic to find out your country's video standard. As a
general guide, if your country uses 60Hz AC power you are probably NTSC; if you use 50Hz
power then you should select PAL (even if your country is actually a SECAM country). See
the Video Basics topic for more information on video standards.

Simulation Preview Decoder Selection

The Simulation Preview Decoder is used when simulating your title, as well as when you
play a movie in the Clip Properties dialog. You have three choices:

None – The movie sits on its first frame of video and does nothing when started with

the Simulator or Clip Properties.

Ravisent Cinemaster – Uses the Cinemaster hardware or software DVD player to play

movies in Simulator and Clip Properties modes. This player is not provided by
SpruceUp and must be purchased separately.

InterVideo WinDVD – Uses the SpruceUp provided WinDVD player from InterVideo.

This is the normal setting.

Note: Due to licensing agreements, the WinDVD player used with

the trial version of SpruceUp cannot play the audio from movies using
Dolby Digital AC-3 encoding. Upgrading to SpruceUp's full version enables
AC-3 audio playback to work.

Display Project Size

SpruceUp provides the ability to have a Media Size Indicator displayed on the bottom of the
Media Gallery. It provides a graphic indication of how large your project is becoming, letting
you anticipate how full your disc will be when exported. This is for display only though –
SpruceUp does not in any way change the project based on what this indicator displays.

The disc media available to export your projects to is constantly changing. New formats and
larger sizes are frequently being released. For this reason SpruceUp provides you the ability
to customize the Media Size Indicator on the bottom of the Media Gallery.
