Some Font Considerations

• You cannot use different fonts or font attributes within a single text entry (each text

entry can be different though). Simulate this by creating multiple text entries and
using the grid to help match them up.

• Text entries always have a higher priority than buttons.

• Use care when choosing the font and its size. Small sizes (20 and less) and thin fonts

can be hard to read at video resolution. Type some sample text and select the
Simulation mode to verify it looks as hoped.

Overlapping Text

As opposed to buttons, overlapping text items are not a problem. Right-click on a text item
to get the following choices:

Bring Text to Front – Makes this the highest priority text item. This is important only

when text items overlap. Note that text items are always in front of buttons.

Send Text to Back – Makes this the lowest priority text item.
See the Adding Drop Shadows topic for details on this setting.

Modifying Existing Text

Modify an existing text entry by double clicking in it, causing the blinking text cursor to
appear.
Once the cursor appears, you can also drag the mouse cursor over a group of letters or
words to highlight them and replace them by typing new text.

Typing Text on a Button

Type text on a button by first typing the text on an unused area of the background, and
then moving it to the desired button.
Text always has higher priority than the buttons. Note that the text is still actually a
separate item – resizing or repositioning the button will not affect the text.
To have text actually be part of the button requires you to include it when creating the
button. See the Creating Buttons topic for details.

Applying Global Changes

There are two things you are likely to want to do at some time: Make all text entries match
in some way, and align multiple text entries.

Making Text Entries Match

Often you will create a group of text entries, scientifically choosing the font and other
attributes, only to find they all need to have a different color and use a smaller font.
SpruceUp makes it easy to select multiple text entries and have font changes affect them
all.

Select multiple text entries by holding the keyboard's Ctrl button down while clicking on
them. Note that the last entry is outlined in red (the others are in green). This indicates that
it is the master, with its attributes displayed in the Work Area Tool Bar.
Changing or selecting an attribute now forces that attribute on all selected text entries. For
example, selecting a red color now makes all selected entries turn red.
An important thing to realize is that the other attributes have not changed. For example, if
you have text entries using different fonts and colors, and you only want to make them all a
bigger size, you can do this by selecting them and changing only the size attribute.
