Manually Copying Files to CD-R

Introduction

This topic covers manually copying files to a CD-R drive. This is useful when using an
unsupported drive or when you want to have more control of the process. There are three
goals to focus on:

• Copying the folders that contain the necessary files to make the disc a valid title.
• Copying the Syzygy™ DVD player that allows the title to play back on almost all PCs.
• Adding any other files you may want to include.

What Makes a Valid Title?

The heart of a DVD title, regardless of the media it is on, is the "Video_ts" folder. This folder
contains everything required to make a valid title. SpruceUp creates the "Video_ts" folder
when compiling the project.

Also created is an "Audio_ts" folder. This folder contains no files – its intended use is for
DVD Audio titles.
To make a title that plays back using standard PC DVD players, you must copy the
"Video_ts" and "Audio_ts" folders to the root of the CD. Other files and folders can also be
placed on the disc, for example a "readme.txt" file.

Note: Use care to not add, remove, or otherwise change the files in

the "Video_ts" folder.

See the DVD Media Basics topic for details on the "Video_ts" folder and other DVD related
information.

Creating the Files to Copy

The Export Dialog's Title Set output mode creates the "Video_ts" and "Audio_ts" folders and
all the files they contain. The files are placed in the location specified with the Output
Destination setting.

Copying the Files with Adaptec's Easy CD Creator

Adaptec's Easy CD Creator is a widely available program suitable for copying files to a CD-R
or CD-RW disc. There are other similar programs that can also be used, such as ahead's
Nero™ and Veritas' MyCD™.
The following assumes you have exported the title as a title set.

Copying the Basic Files

1 Start Easy CD Creator. This also starts the Easy CD Creator Wizard, which does not

work that well for what you need to do, especially when adding the Syzygy player. Our
recommendation is to close the Wizard.

2 Select the Data CD Layout tab on the top of the Creator window.
3 The window is divided into an upper and lower half. The Upper half displays your

system's drives, and the lower half displays an image of the CD you are setting up.
Note that no files are actually written to the disc until you finish setting it up and
select Create CD.

4 Use the left half of the upper section to locate the drive and directory containing the

"Video_ts" and "Audio_ts" folders.
