A Movie as First Play

What is First Play?

The Menu Gallery shows the menus in the order they were created – the actual order has no
real meaning except for the first menu (on the left), referred to as the First Play item. This
is the first thing displayed when the title plays. Ordinarily it is a menu allowing the viewer to
select what they would really like to see, with buttons linking to other menus or to specific
Chapter Points within a movie.

A Movie as First Play

SpruceUp makes a special provision for having a movie as the First Play item. By dragging a
movie from the Media Gallery directly to the first menu position of the Menu Gallery, it
becomes the First Play item.

The sprocket holes along its sides indicate that it is not a typical menu. A first play movie is
not a menu – you cannot place buttons or text on it. Clicking on it will not open it in the
Work Area as happens with menus. Right-clicking on it provides two selections: Delete
First Play Movie
and Loop First Play.
Select Delete First Play Movie to remove the movie from the Menu Gallery (it remains in
the Media Gallery). Select Loop First Play to set the title to continuously play this movie
over again once it finishes. Any following menus cannot be accessed.

Movie as First Play Considerations

Following are things to keep in mind regarding setting a movie as the First Play:

• Only the first position of the Menu Gallery can have a movie dragged to it.
• SpruceUp displays the first menu once the movie has played (unless Loop First Play

was enabled on the movie).
