SpruceUp User’s Guide

To define a button as default:
SpruceUp uses a default button whenever movies and menus are dragged directly onto the
Work Area. Use the following to define which is the default button:

• Select the Buttons tab in the Media Gallery to display icons of the current buttons.
• Use the mouse to right-click on the button you wish to set as default.
• Click on the Set As Default item to make it the default button.

To add a movie or menu to the menu using the default button:

• Drag the movie (from the Media Gallery) or menu (from the Menu Gallery) to an

empty place on the menu background.

The default button is automatically assigned to it. There is always a default button assigned
– by default it is the simple rectangle.
To change a button:
Change an existing button to a different style by simply dragging the new one over the top
of the existing one. The original button's target remains active.
Button navigation:
SpruceUp monitors button placement and automatically assigns a navigation flow to
buttons, based on horizontal vs. vertical placement. If you move buttons around after
placing them, SpruceUp re-assigns the navigation flow to match the new layout.

Adding Text

Add text to the menu by clicking on an empty part of its background. You may have to click
a second time since the first time just de-selects any selected buttons. Type the desired
text.
Text tools appear on the Work Area Tool Bar. These allow you to select the font, color, size,
and other attributes of the text.
Reposition the text by clicking on an empty area of the menu background to get out of the
text editing mode, then selecting the text as an object by clicking on it (a rectangle is drawn
around it to indicate it is selected). The text entry can be dragged anywhere on the menu,
including over the top of buttons.
You can also resize the text by grabbing a side of the text rectangle and dragging it. Note
that the text always maintains its aspect ratio, regardless of which edge you drag.
Edit existing text by double-clicking it.

See the Typing Text topic for details.

Using the Alignment and Sizing Tools

Once you have placed several items on the menu (buttons and/or text), you will most likely
want to make them look uniform, either in position or size or both.
To assist you in doing this manually, SpruceUp provides a grid. Press the Grid button (on
the Work Area Toolbar) to toggle it on and off. Objects automatically snap to it as they are
moved.
A set of alignment and sizing tools on the Work Area Toolbar provides you with the controls
most commonly needed to automatically align and size the items. Which tools are active
depends on how many items you have selected and whether any of them are text. See the
Using the Alignment and Sizing Tools topic for details on what the tools do.
