Configuring IGMP Filtering and Throttling for Interfaces
Once you have configured IGMP profiles, you can assign them to
interfaces on the switch. Also, you can set the IGMP throttling number to
limit the number of multicast groups an interface can join at the same
time.
Command Usage
• Only one profile can be assigned to an interface.
• An IGMP profile or throttling setting can also be applied to a trunk
interface. When ports are configured as trunk members, the trunk uses
the settings applied to the first port member in the trunk.
• IGMP throttling sets a maximum number of multicast groups that a port
can join at the same time. When the maximum number of groups is
reached on a port, the switch can take one of two actions; either “deny”
or “replace.” If the action is set to deny, any new IGMP join reports will
be dropped. If the action is set to replace, the switch randomly removes
an existing group and replaces it with the new multicast group.
Command Attributes
• Profile – Selects an existing profile number to assign to an interface.
• Max Multicast Groups – Sets the maximum number of multicast
groups an interface can join at the same time. (Range: 0-255;
Default: 255)
• Current Multicast Groups – Displays the current number of multicast
groups the interface has joined.
• Throttling Action Mode – Sets the action to take when the maximum
number of multicast groups for the interface has been exceeded.
(Default: Deny)
- deny - The new multicast group join report is dropped.
- replace - The new multicast group replaces an existing group.
• Throttling Status – Indicates if the throttling action has been
implemented on the interface. (Options: True or False)
• Trunk – Indicates if a port is a trunk member.
